Rachael Horne

Certified Sleep Sense™ Sleep Consultant

At a young age I always had a great love for children, so I started babysitting at the age of nine and ran a successful little business.

As a young mother of three I still had a great love of children that led me back to school to study early childhood development and open another business, A childcare facility which I ran successfully for 7 years.

My Story

Aside from being a pediatric sleep consultant, I am also the mother of five fantastic children. I live in British Columbia, right on the beautiful West Coast. Sleep is essential in maintaining good physical and mental health, and let’s face it, when you’re a new parent sleep is often looked at as a luxury instead of a necessity. When I had my first three children, I didn’t really feel sleep deprived (probably because I was so young when I had them). If they didn’t sleep one night, I would take a nap and hope for the best the next night. I honestly didn’t stress too much about it. Fast forward 15 years to when my fourth child was born. It was the best time of my life because she was my rainbow baby and I had to wait a long time to have her. On the flip side it was the worst time of my life because I went through several months of little to no sleep. She struggled with reflux that we couldn’t get under control, coupled with a dairy allergy. She was diagnosed with Celiac disease at the age of 2.5 years so her discomfort didn’t end until then. With the constant crying for that whole 2.5 years, I vowed to never have any more children.

Then three and a half years after Clara was born, I received the surprise of my life. I was pregnant with my fifth child. A deep fear took over and the reality of facing a male Clara was in the forefront of my mind. Soon after his birth it was hard to develop a connection, which had never happened before. It was not long after that I was diagnosed with severe postpartum depression. During this time, I felt like a horrible mother, I felt like my baby did not like me. He would not fall asleep for me despite my best efforts, and all that took the greatest toll on me. I was desperate for an easy baby sleep solution just to help him sleep. We found one, executed it and had great success. This led me to the next stage of my child career as a sleep consultant. I gained the knowledge and skills to unravel the mystery that was my son. Today, he sleeps well, and I have control of my life. Because of my experience I have come to understand that babies are not a mystery, they are a puzzle. A puzzle I can help you solve through customized sleep plans designed according to your babies needs, so you can regain control of your life.

“Rachael was such a pleasure to work with throughout this whole process. She gave me the confidence and knowledge to sleep train my daughter how I most felt comfortable and was always quick to get back to me with the greatest suggestions.”
